Tablet. Round, light brown tablets, scored on one side and plain on the other side. The tablets can be divided into four equal parts. In dogs: - Treatment of congestive heart failure due to valvular insufficiency (mitral and/or tricuspid regurgitation) or dilated cardiomyopathy. Do not administer to patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or in clinical conditions where an increase in cardiac output is not possible for functional or anatomical reasons (e.g. aortic stenosis). See also section Use during pregnancy, lactation or lay. These symptoms disappear when treatment is stopped. In rare cases, increased mitral regurgitation has been observed during chronic treatment with pimobendan in dogs with mitral regurgitation. Laboratory studies in rats and rabbits have not shown any teratogenic or foetotoxic effects. These studies have not shown any maternotoxic or embryotoxic effects at high doses, but have demonstrated that pimobendan is excreted in milk. The safety of the product has not been evaluated in pregnant or lactating dogs. Use should only be based on a benefit/risk assessment by the veterinarian.

Holly has been on it for 4 months and it has worked wonders for her.Am just concerned because she seems to vomit bile up every week is absolutely fine after and still has a good appetite. Wondered if it would help reducing the Vetmedin to 1 a day? I do not recommend reducing the Vetmedin below the dose as recommended by your vet as the medication may not work effectively if reduced. If the vomiting started very soon after the Vetmedin was started then I advise discussing this with your vet as it could be related. There can be many different causes to this though unrelated to the Vetmedin and it is worth ruling them out with your vet. hi just wondering if we can break the capsule and place the ingredients inside into some water and syringe to insert into our dogs mouth as she finds it hard to swallow it and we have a hard time getting it down her throat. which actually causes more stress to our dog. Drugs are generally made in a capsule for a reason, which is usually to protect the active ingredient in the stomach acid so that it can reach the small intestine where it is absorbed. I would be concerned that the drug would not be as effective if you were to mix the powder with water and syringe it in. Vetmedin is available in a tablet form if you think that this would be easier (your vet would need to write a prescription for tablets not capsules for us to dispense these). She seems to be a more sleepy and lethargic I'm thinking she needs to go back on the second one again would you say so as well ? This drug only persists in the body for a few hours and twice daily dosing is likely to be much better than once daily. Regardless of that you should always give it on an empty stomach and with no food for at least 30 minutes afterwards if possible, because it is not easily absorbed into the body and any food present will reduce this further, reducing its effect. I would suggest going for twice daily if possible.

If the product is administered to diabetic dogs, blood glucose levels should be carefully monitored. As pimobendan is metabolised in the liver, appropriate precautions should be taken when administering the product to dogs with severe hepatic insufficiency. Monitoring of cardiac function and morphology is recommended in animals treated with pimobendan. See also section 'Adverse reactions'. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice and show the package leaflet or label to the physician. Wash hands after use. Note to physician: Accidental ingestion, particularly in children, may result in an episode of tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension, facial flushing and headache. A moderate positive chronotropic effect and vomiting may occur in rare cases. However, these effects are dose-related and can be avoided by dose reduction. In rare cases, transient diarrhea, anorexia or lethargy have been observed. Although a relationship with pimobendan has not been clearly established, in very rare cases signs of effects on primary hemostasis (petechiae on mucous membranes, subcutaneous hemorrhages) have been observed during treatment.
